The Buddy Bison School Program encourages children and their families to get outside and have an American park experience. Our youth program staff is dedicated to educating teachers and students on how to use our parks as fun outdoor classrooms with lessons that directly align with the school’s curricula and standards of learning. Our team has a strong science and education background. In addition, NPT partners teachers with local park rangers, wildlife experts, and naturalists to develop a plan to incorporate parks into background lesson plans.
Depending on the level of funding, students/teachers will participate in 2-3 experiences (in and out of the classroom) and receive classroom toolkits full of books and other resources – and a Buddy Bison to take with them to parks. NPT will create and in some cases facilitate all outdoor experiences for the students. Teachers can easily replicate this education plan in future school years.
We have intentionally kept the program flexible and unstructured to allow teachers to tailor the program to their students’ needs. We look to our schools for inspiration, feedback, ideas, and creativity; teachers help shape this robust program. Buddy Bison inspires creativity and innovation when connecting children with our nation’s parks, forest, and our public land/water. Together with Buddy Bison, your students will be motivated to 1) use parks as outdoor classrooms to enhance their existing curriculum in science, math, history, language arts, and other disciplines; 2) encourage health and wellness through outdoor recreation; and 3) cultivate future park stewards and conservationists.
